What genre of literature would you say teens are into the most? Turns out teens tend to turn to dystopian societies, now do you know why? Teens these days are just getting darker in all types of ways one of the ways they are getting darker is they are starting to enjoy darker genres of literature and movies. One of the ways to show you why they can relate to these stories is by talking about the movie The Giver based off the book by Lois Lowry directed by Phillip Noyce and the book Anthem written by Ayn Rand. Now teens these days like dystopian societies and one reason is because of how they can relate to them and for there darker nature.
Society tends to disagree with Ayn Rand’s political views regarding the concept of how a government should be controlled. Despite people contradicting with her beliefs, some politicians recognize her perspective and utilize her logic in debates. Of the politicians that support Rand’s political views, most derive their logic from one of Rand’s widely known novels, Anthem. This particular dystopian novel emphasizes a collective society where the simple thinking of individual choice is prohibited. Rand Paul, a Kentucky senator of the republican party, was influenced by Anthem in such a way that he utilized this book in a debate he took part in back in 2007 which lasted until 2013.
In the book Anthem by Ayn Rand, Equality lives in a world where individuality is a sin. He finds himself smarter, taller, and stronger than his brothers. As he’s exploring one day, he finds a tunnel where he discovers something new. Deciding whether to show the Scholars his discovery or not is a difficult decision Equality makes in the book. If the Scholars don't approve of his invention, he could be punished for the crime he committed.

The objective is complete egalitarianism, this is the “rightful” sense of morality. The protagonist of the novella, Equality 7-2521, is of this collective.
Which is worse: failing or never trying? That question is the one we all ask ourselves. I think that never try it is worse because you lock yourself in your comfort zone and in the end when not intending it you fail because you lose the opportunity know what will happen, you stay with the doubt and do not know if that could have been the best experience or a great achievement in your life. On the other hand, if you try and fail, you learn and if you learn improvements.

This book is a good book to choose for those who like futuristic stories, or stories that need deep thinking in order to comprehend the book. In this book the main character, Equality 7-2521 is afraid to be independent, since there is no such thing as independence in this story.
The word “I” has a significant impact on our society. Its absence gradually lowers our society to have unjust expectations of people, and allow those expectations to influence our government. The book Anthem, by Ayn Rand, is an example of this occurrence. There is no use of the word “I”, “my”, or any word that implies individuality, as it has been prohibited by the government.

In the novel Anthem, Ayn Rand creates a society where individualism is a sin. The protagonist, Equality 7-2521 disagrees with the government’s beliefs of a collectivist society and supports the idea of individualism. Like on page 101, Equality 7-2521 realizes that "To be free, a man must be free of his brothers.” By this, Equality 7-2521 finally understands that he must be independent and different in order to succeed in his society. He displays Rand’s belief of egoism by his discovery of electricity, the way he stood up to the government, and how he shared his belief of individualism with Liberty 5-3000-also known as the Golden One-the beautiful peasant in which he fell in love with.
Atlas Shrugged describes in length various philosophical attitudes of humanity. Attitudes such as: what defines an ideal man? What is the moral code that defines a man’s existence? The character, Hank Rearden at his trial and in the events of the story, fights the moral codes: “Nothing is absolute” (265), "Reality is only an illusion” (498) proposed by the great intellect, Dr. Simon Pritchett. “Nothing exists but contradictions" (341) the affirmative stance of a scientist, Dr. Robert Stadler.
Ayn Rand is famous for making unique characters, such as Francisco d’Anconia, a character in the book Atlas Shrugged. Francisco is first introduced as a playboy, who throughout the story he seems to be making decisions carelessly, many constantly question his state of mind. However as the character starts to develop more, everything he has been working for, is for a bigger cause- “Who’s John Galt”. There was a particular part in the book were Francisco’s character truly starts to unravel.
The passage, Anthem, is a science fiction novel written by Ayn Rand. It is mainly about the protagonist, Equality 7-2521's, futuristic journey on rediscovering various aspects of human’s nature. Concepts such as individualism and freedom have been lost due to the oppressive rule of the government, serving as the main antagonist of the novel. Throughout the passage, Anthem, the author uses the literary element of theme. The theme is the main idea or underlying meaning of a literary work.
