Bad Effects Technology Has On Wildlife What are some ways do you think people use technology in their everyday lives? Think about how many times you use technology a day, and you can triple that number by millions. People use technology when they’re listening to music in their cars, and even when they are turning their steering wheels. These are some of the technology usages that we are aware of, but can you think of some ways we use technology without even knowing? Lasers are in fact one technology usage that people do not realize they stumble across. Lasers are used when items are being scanned at your local grocery store. They are even outlined on DVDs which allows people to watch movies on their tv screens. Every piece of technology is …show more content…
Every tool in a science lab is considered some form of technology. Majority of the animals are being used for biomedical research. Research on animals has been going on for many years. Hajar stated, “Early Greek physician-scientists, such as Aristotle, (384 – 322 BC) and Erasistratus, (304 – 258 BC), performed experiments on living animals”( www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). This statement explains that not only testing on animals is used today, but it was also used several years ago. Most scientists use testing to better understand a subject such as an anatomy or to find cures for certain diseases or cancers. Not everyone agree with testing on animals, they in fact think that it is very harmful to them. As of late, the act of utilizing creatures for biomedical research has gone under serious feedback by animal protection and animal rights groups. Germain states, “The debate around the use of animals in science is an old one, and despite important differences and developments since the 19th century, one can only be struck by the underlying continuity in its themes” (75). Some of the scientist experimentation has drawn red flags by animal rights groups. They declare that some testing may be too extreme to test on innocent animals. There now has been several laws passed to protect the rights of animals. Ferdowsian states, “…the U.S. adopted regulations for animals used in research, with the passage of the …show more content…
Scientists have invented collars with a GPS to keep track of animals who are roaming in the wild. The collars help scientist to study the animals. By tracking them, they can find out what areas they prefer to be at and their behaviors. Stark states, “ GPS telemetry has provided the opportunity to simultaneously track multiple animals with improved locational accuracy, without the limitations associated with radio tracking or direct human observation, such as biases due to bad weather, length of time followed, distance covered, or difficult terrain” (2). Scientists are using GPS collars to monitor animals. The collars allow them to do this without having any complications from lost signals. Even though the GPS collars can help locate animals, it can not protect them from being harmed. For example, if an antelope wander into an area where lions stay the scientists will be notified. Although they will be notified of this manner, they will not make it there in time in order to save the animal from being harmed. Locating animals with GPS collars are only useful for studying
