Time Management and Finding Balance While Attending College
There are many reasons why students do not attend or finish college right after they complete high school. Some people are not necessarily ready to focus on 4 more years of school or some may become skilled in a trade and instead of pursuing a degree, they choose to acquire a skill and earn money. For me it was a combination of not being quite ready to focus on University level courses and not having the financial backing to complete college. At any rate with the invention of the internet and the inter communication that is available now, someone like me, can now work a full time job and still earn credits in college from the comfort of my own home. As comfortable and convenient as it all sounds, there are still quite a few obstacles for achieving your goals while balancing family, career and the demanding schedule of online courses. News article, “online enrollment hit an all-time high in 2010 with more than 6.1 million students”. With the ease and draw of online courses it is easy to think that the courses are at your own pace but the reality is that, depending on which classes you take, there are many deadlines that need to be met on a weekly basis that are required from each class. It is important to know that class syllabus, the calendar of events to know when assignments are due and to know what and by when you need to have researched the designated curriculum as requested by your professor. It is important to have a plan and to check in many times throughout the week so that you are completely aware of when your assignments are due. In my experience the professors have all been very understanding and realize that people that are using nontraditional methods of higher education have busy schedules. So it is imperative that you communicate consistently with your professors if problems arise or if you need help with any of the
