Banning Advertisements Targeting Children

Any time you turn on your television it's inevitable that you are going to see advertisements. As an adult with a child it should be basic information that if you are allowing your kid to watch tv, they will be exposed to commercials advertising toys, food, and more. Advertising is definetly something that pursuades us to buy most of the things we have, but we can't blame the ads on television for us not being able to save and make mature purchasing decisions. I believe that banning advertisements targeting children would be ridiculous. I do realize the power of the ad on a young mind, though.. My nieces are constantly talking about the toys they saw on tv, and asking their mom to buy them. The advertisement company wants this to happen. They want little kids to beg their parents for the toy they saw on that commercial. This is how the company is making a large majority of their profits. Saying no, teaching our children to save money, and spend in moderation is very important. The writer in passage one was worried about kids feeling left out, but I believe that if kids are brought up with decipline it can easily prevent a lot of feelings of inferiority from not having a certain product. This generation is very entitled and spoiled. Kids think they deserve everything they want and don't have to work for it. All different ages are exposed everday to advertisements that may have a negative affect on our finances or our health. Children are not the exception. Adults also have to have self disipline to not run out and purchase everything we see on tv that we want. If you cant afford to spend the money on a product, then dont buy it. It seems silly to blame the advertising company for your loss of money, merely because they targeted children in their
