From the Roman Empire to the Nazis in Germany, the destruction of books has been practiced over many generations and is a timeless event that prohibits the acquisition of knowledge and censors the information within each page of the thousands of books playing victim to these profane acts. Similar to the burning of books, the banning of books prevents kids from being exposed to subjects that others deem inappropriate. This can affect their growth in positive ways by limiting their exposure to issues that can negatively influence their developing minds. Tom was first charged with the crime of rape, which is already a violent crime that children should not be exposed to, but he was then shot seventeen times. To Kill a Mockingbird contains numerous instances where violence such as murder and rape are present, and both of these crimes are extremely severe and brutal crimes that can impact the development of a child. This book is too vulgar to be something that kids are taught at a place where they are supposed to be happy and learn,rather than be traumatized because a character they empathize with was shot seventeen times.
