Looking Closer into the Baptist Church The field that I have choose to observe and participate in would be Hopewell Baptist Church in Monroe, NC. This church has been established years ago and is a part of the Southern Baptist Convention. The church is located off of a highway 601 where much traffic passes by. There is a corn field between the church and the highway but it is still visible from the road and well known in the community. This particular church has three different services on Sunday mornings. Service times are 8:30am, 9:45am, and 11:00am. Each service lasts approximately one hour with a fifteen-minute break between services. For this observation I have attended the 8:30am service. I have reviewed the church’s website, www.whatasavior.com , to gather this data. When arriving at the church, I immediately feel welcomed. There are people in the parking lot greeting me and helping me to find a parking spot. Everyone has a smile on their face and many have wished me a good morning before I have even entered the church. The video is up on a screen in the front of the church building and it includes a member of the church sharing upcoming events that the church will be holding. As soon as the video ends the band and choir that is up on stage begins to play music and sing a worship song. Singing is a form of worship in the church and they invite all of the people to stand and sing along. As I stand it is very easy to blend into the crowd and feel as if I am a part of the church. There are lyrics on the screen at this point and if you do not know the song then you can follow along. The lyrics are words praising and giving glory to the highest God and thanking Him for all that He has done. Many people raise their hands in agreement to the lyrics and worship in their own
