The Battle of Gettysburg is an Astonishing day some of the biggest battles took place during this day. It had a lot of history about how the Union took control of the whole battle until it ended.General Longstreet had a great impact during this time and what he did.
In the morning right before fighting started there were over 150,000 men on both sides. There was no fighting because both sides were getting in position for the battles that day.In late morning both sides got into posistion to start the day off. Picket charged down the hill with bayonets because they ran out of ammunition during the charge, and he made General Robert E. Lee retreat down the hill (HN.com). Battle of Culp's Hill and Cemetery Hill Union had control of Culp’s Hill. They had enough of control that they got a victory. Lee thinks that the Unions center is weak. Battle of Cemetery Hill Union pushed down the hill. First Minnesota had 262 members. They ran down the hill and killed and captured the confederates. First Minnesota substance had high percent of casualties of the Unions regiment during the war (AGG 67). Battle of Devils Den had some brutal fighting during it. Confederates best sharpshooter got shot and died. General George moved his troops over to Peach Orchard. The South tried to hold position in many hill areas, but they could never seem to do it because they really didn’t have experience in that kind of terrain (AGG 63-64).
