Joseph Stalin was the dictator of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics better know as the USSR or Soviet Union from 1929 to 1953. After Vladimir Lenin died of a stroke in 1924. Four years later in 1928, Stalin was the undisputed ruler of the Soviet Union. With Stalin as the Leader of the USSR, the country transformed from a struggling society suffering from the effects of World War One to an industrial and military superpower. Nevertheless, Stalin was a ruthless leader. While in power, Stalin was responsible for forty million deaths. These deaths came from mostly soldiers and citizens. At the beginning of World War Two, Stalin sent troops to occupy the eastern half of Poland. Soon Nazi troops invaded Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Each …show more content…

The Stalingrad was a battle in World War Two between Nazi Germany and their allies and the Soviet Union for control of the city Stalingrad. It's sometimes seen as one of the turning points of World War Two. It is also seen as the bloodiest battle in modern history, with nearly two million casualties. The battle was brutal and there was no regard for military and civilian casualties. Hitler’s directive did not demand to occupy Stalingrad, but to cover it with heavy artillery so that it would no longer be industrial. HE was stubborn, Hitler's refusal to retreat cost him his entire southern campaign, and horrific losses to both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. The city was named after the dictator Joseph Stalin Hitler's arch nemesis. Hitler became obsessed with occupying Stalingrad and kept troops there despite everything until a large Nazi force was destroyed to the last man. A few years later the Tehran Conference opened with Stalin filled with confidence after several major victories on the Eastern Front. Roosevelt and Churchill sought to keep Soviet cooperation in keeping the war policies. He did comply, but he demanded support from the allies of his government and in Yugoslavia.
