The Battle of Villers-Bretonneux. 24 April 1918. The Battle of Villers-Bretonneux is also described as the crucial turning point of world war one. The Key moments of the battle were that Germans Captured the town of Villers-Bretonneux on morning of April 24. The location of the battle is a city of Amiens located on the river Somme. German Soldiers needed the city to get more strategy advantage in front of British and Australian battalions. At that time British launched the counter attack at the same night. In this War Australia lost about 3900 thousand people. The location of the battle is a city of Amiens based on the river Somme. The Australian flag continues to fly over the town. The whole significance of the battle can be found in the Australian National Memorial that was built right outside the town. The building was approved by Australian Government after WWI, to show the sacrifice of the AIF on the western front. Each Year on Anzac Day a small ceremony is held at the memorial to describe the sacrifice of the soldiers. In the past hundred years the service has also been held without. (Purdom., 1930) The battle of Villers-Bretonneux is also described as the crucial turning point of the WWI. Two Australian Brigades took part in the counter-attack to stop the German soldiers spring offensive on the night of 24 April 1918, together with three British battalions. Australian troops displayed great bravery and also suffered an awful loss. 2400 Australians died in the battle of Vilelrs-bretonneux to recapture the town, according to Department of Veterans ‘Affairs. Peter Pedersen, historian consultant of the federal Government’s WWI centenary, says while Australians rightly commemorate the fighting at Gallipoli, the battles at Villers-Bretonneux should be given higher prominence in regards to Australian Involvement in World War
