The First Battle of Marne was a battle in the modern world that occurred in September 1914. The First Battle of Marne took place in Paris, France. The war was fought between the Germany and France and Great Britain’s armies. The start of the battle happened after the French army had attacked the German army. The attack was based on what was called the Schlieffen Plan. A plan made by German to be able to triumph in an attack against Belgium and France. The significance of the Battle of Marne is that German armies created a battlefront as a result of their competitive forces, which is known as the Western front(pg.5486).

The Von Schlieffen Plan was a battle plan made by Germany made in the early 20th century. The plan was comprised of the operational tactics that would be taken in order to for Germany to be successful in the invasion of Belgium and eventually Europe. Germany had been planning for this for quite some time, in fact the plans can be dated back to the first decade of the century.
