Carla A behavior intervention plan (BIP) is a plan that’s designed to teach reward positive behaviors. This can help prevent for stop problem behaviors in school. The BIP is based on the results of the FBA. The BIP describes the problem behavior, the reason the behavior occurs and the intervention strategies that will address the problem behavior. A BIP can help a child to learn problem solving skills and find better ways to respond in a situation.
Twenty years ago Arnold Goldstein came up with the concept of, Aggression Replacement Training, also known as ART. Over the past two decades the concept of replacing violent, aggressive, or antisocial behavior with prosocial skills has been proven to be very effective. I have chosen to incorporate the same concept of replacing aggressive behavior, but I’d like to tailor it around aggressive juveniles, my program would be called, Juvenile Aggression Replacement and Education. The main goals of the program would be to teach juveniles how to control their emotions and violent out spurts, reduce aggression and violence amongst the juveniles in the program, teach juveniles “prosocial skills” that can replace the aggressive behavior, and reduce recidivism amongst juveniles with a past crime history and prevent any future crimes for the juveniles who do not have a criminal record.
How effective is it? Several researches have been conducted to examine the effectiveness of token economy rewards system in reducing disruptive behaviors whether for the whole school and/ or classroom or for a single student for example: A: Token Economy for the whole school and/or classroom - Wheatley, Charlton, Sanders, & Smith (2009) were concerned about the increasing disruptive behaviors in the common areas such as the cafeterias and playgrounds in school. The study was conducted to target inappropriate behavior such as running and littering. School administrators as well as teachers were trained how to provide Praise Notes as a reward to students who perform a positive behavior.
Behavioral therapies have been used to help modify a myriad of social conditions at a very successful rate. Aversion therapy as portrayed in A Clockwork Orange is used to encourage an individual to relinquish undesirable habits by causing them to associate the habit to an unpleasant side effect. In Alex’s case, his undesirable habits were violence, rape and murder. The treatment he received successfully corrected his behavior by associating these negative and violent habits with nausea, headaches, and stomach cramps. The excruciating pain induced by his conditioning reinforced the idea that the habit he was about to act upon was wrong and ultimately caused him to rethink his course of action.

These two bad habits gradually developed from last year and I have attempted to change it several times before this semester.
Rational behavioral therapy was established by Albert Ellis in the 1950’s. Ellis viewed personality as Ellis views personality as a consistent behavioral, communicative, and reactive style of an individual, resulting from the interaction biology, cognitive aspects and emotional tendencies. For example, my little sister had a bad behavior that came into my room without any permission every time. This behavior was rude and I intended to help her to increase a behavior of knocking the door before entering the room. I would give her a cartoon sticker every two times if she knocks the door first and waits until my permission to come in. After several times, she remembered to knock the door first. The increasing behavior of knocking the door in the future is reinforcement.
This method of operant conditioning allows a person and or animal to realize when something is being done correctly and that it should be followed in the future. This method is rewarding and allows it to be beneficial for someone. According to a research conducted to treat problem behavior in Atlanta, researchers finalized that “training and treatment analysis showed that treatments based on positive reinforcement were effective at reducing problem behavior. (Call, 2014). This research proves how positive reinforcement can provide a good outcome for future behaviors.
One example would be an online program I used to use in my classroom called Front Row. As students answered questions correctly, they earned points. Once they earned enough points, they were able to go to the store and buy certain things to dress up their character. This program focused mainly on rewards and not punishments. Why would anyone want to pretty much reward someone for bad behavior? I mean that pretty much is what they’re doing by letting kids just go to meditation after doing something wrong. I’m a strong believer that meditation can be helpful in situations. However, those situations aren’t to correct behavioral problems but to help release stress and I also think it would be good for people to do when feeling depressed.
