Being a citizen of Canada does not necessarily mean that one is truly Canadian. A true Canadian must not just be a good citizen but an active citizen, who has positive impacts on those he or her surrounds. A true Canadian must have core values that they show on a daily basis. These include generosity, kindness, and acceptance. Finally, and most importantly, to truly be Canadian, one must stand up for what he or she believes in.
A Canadian is more than a good citizen; they are active citizens in their community. This can be shown by an example from my OHP, my grandfather. He was incredibly active in his community in Duncan, BC with involvement with many other families in need through volunteering organizations or by inviting new immigrants

Referenced in Adrienne Clarkson’s book Belonging, Brian Mulroney stood up to the entire Commonwealth for what he believed in. He spoke out against South Africa’s induction in to the Commonwealth because South Africa was a country that promoted racial segregation, and had systematically oppressed an entire ethnic people. His actions were vital in ridding the country of its ridiculous segregation system. The most important aspect of being a truly being Canadian is standing up for what one believes in. Brian Mulroney actions were evidence to this statement. He stood up and said something about what he believed was wrong, and never wavered in his belief for what he thought was right.
Winston Churchill said that “There are no limits to the majestic future which lies before the mighty expanse of Canada with its virile, aspiring, cultured, and generous-hearted people.” He spoke to the kindheartedness and potential of Canadian people. Churchill truly understood what made Canadian people so special; it was their values, vindictiveness, and finally their generosity. Just being a citizen of Canada does not make one truly Canadian.
