Mind; Forget What You Know About Good Study Habits (Summary) In the article Mind; Forget what you know about good study habits, the author Benedict Carey, focuses on four study habits that are supported by different research to be the most effective when it comes to learning. Even though the research contradicts everything that we believed about studying, it can help anyone to learn. The four study habits or techniques in the article; altering study environments, mixing content, spacing study sessions, and self-testing assures the student to have better learning. Altering study environments refers to the change of the locations when studying. This makes the materials easier to remember than when you study only a single content at a time. The findings of the multiple researches supporting this study habit came with the same result that is easier for the brain to pick the differences and similarities between different contents, rather than only focusing on one. Spacing study session is the concept of studying gradually. Studying a concept in separate session through periods of time helps the brain relearn in every session the same concept. The research supporting this study habit, it is not completely sure why this method of study works. But assumes that when the brain reviews the same material at a later time, it has to relearn the material, then adding new concepts related to the material. The process of relearning through separated study sessions is itself
