Leaders have contributed to the rise and fall of civilizations throughout history. Another name for a leader is a chief or executive. Beowulf, The Bible, and 7 Of The Most Inspiring Leadership Stories all have had leaders who defend, serve and protect their people. A leader is a person who leads a group of people, especially the head of a country, an organization, etc. (defined in the Oxford dictionary). These people have contributed tremendous amounts to society and have left their mark on the world. Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. King grew up during an extremely segregated and racist time in America's history. King, a Baptist minister, later became a social activist fighting for the rights of black people across America. King practiced non-violent protests to help blacks gain equal rights and to help end segregation. King is most well known for his “I have a Dream” speech that he gave in Washington D.C in 1963. The article states “Leadership through inspiration- Martin Luther King’s I have a dream speech” (Park Online). The speech that King gave became a symbol of freedom and it inspired many Americans to follow in his footsteps.
