1) Keep current with issues, best practices and trends in public library service to teens and tweens. In addition to the classes that were listed in Section A, attending Comic Con would provide me with information about what is popular among teens and tweens regarding popular culture. Additionally, joining the YALSA chapter of the ALA would be beneficial because it would help me keep up to date with important information concerning youth services. 2) Represent NLS at professional meetings and conferences on the local, state, and national level as recommended by the Manager of Youth Services. I could work in a library setting catering to youth by hosting programs, assisting youth with finding books, being up to date with books that are being published, and having knowledge of the youth collection within the library that they worked in. Currently, I am working as a Teen Lab Assistant at the Queens Public library and I have the opportunity to assist the librarians with the programs that they host for the youth. For example, an upcoming program is a writing workshop, where the youth are offered assistance with their essays or English homework. Additionally, the youth are welcome to use the time to write stories that interest them. 4) Comprehensive knowledge of library practices and techniques in teen services. The development of this skill is similar to the one listed above. By working as a teen librarian, I would be able to develop an understanding of the practices and techniques within the teen section of a library. This post provided me with the skills needed to become a Young Adult librarian. I prefer Young Adult literature; however, I enjoy working with children rather than teenagers. As stated before, I am currently working as Teen Lab Assistant and the Teen Librarians are creating programs that I would be interested in tweaking to make it appropriate for a younger audience. For example, a program that promotes National Novel Writing Month to elementary school children.
