There once was a man that longed to have a career in art. He was involved in the school newspaper and enrolled in the Academy of Fine Arts to pursue his dreams. Later on, he started working at the Kansas City Star newspaper. He was fired from there on account of “lack of creativity.” Determined to not give up on his dreams, he attempted a career in animation. Once he finally finished a series of short films called the “Alice Series,” his company went bankrupt. After yet another setback, he packed his bags and moved to Hollywood at age twenty one. Here, his hard work paid off when his animation skills were chosen by the motion picture industry in 1928. Causes can range from someone trying to prove him or herself to someone attempting to make up for previous mistakes. Some people are simply determined to graduate and get a degree. Others are determined to have a happy, healthy family. Determination for a few people may just be trying to get a homerun in baseball. No matter the objective, effort must be exerted to fulfill the goal. Bill Gates was determined to start his own computer software company. His competitive nature and passion for technology fueled his need to succeed. He started off at age sixteen by creating Traf-O-Data, a product that could read traffic tapes and then process the data. While trying to sell his device to the local county, his demo failed, ruining the sale. Gates then started over and used coding to create Microsoft. Microsoft then became the world’s largest personal-computer software and Gates became the richest man in the world (Balasa). I tried my best to prepare for the races, and then I would give them my all. It would be frustrating when I did not get the times that I wanted, but then I would push myself harder and try to do better the next time. There were goals that I would set ahead of time for myself, and I would not stop trying until I accomplished them. At one race, my foot had started hurting tremendously from my stress fracture, so I stopped running and walked off of the course. Even though I had been in quite a bit of pain, with more determination I think I could have finished that race. After it was over, I was very upset with myself. When it was time for the next race, I tightly wrapped my foot and pushed through the pain, finishing it. It is all a mind game. People are only capable of doing what they believe they can do. The more people are determined, the more likely they can do something. Some people may say that determination is just trying to get work done, but it goes past that. Only trying to get a project done but not caring about its quality is not showing great determination. Determination is being so intent on doing something that your life suddenly revolves around it. Whatever it is that people are determined to do becomes all they can think about until it gets done. All of their time and money goes into it. People will do whatever it takes to make sure their goals are met. Anything can be possible when
