There are a variety of cultural, physiological and family theories that are believed to cause an individual to become a sex offender. This paper investigates four different topics; biological, behavioral, sociocultural, and attachment/intimacy. A few methods used to explore these topics are biological theories for sexual offenders such as hormones, high testosterone and predetermined sexual appetites. Some behavioral theories for sexual offenders are conditioning or learning and the environment. Some sociocultural theories for sexual offenders include their role in society and violence. And lastly, there are attachment/intimacy theories for sexual offenders. There are intimacy deficits, and inappropriate sexual contact.
Sexual offending behaviors are the results of a combination of biological, developmental, and cultural influences. Some genetic factors are largely responsible for the effect. Some sex offenders have genes that may determine if they were a sex offender.
