Entering my junior year, the questions immediately began to flood in: “Where do you plan on going to college?”, “How are you going to accomplish your goals?” or more importantly “What do you plan to study?” Similar to many of my peers, I answered by falling back on my academic strong suits. As a math-inclined student, I naturally shared with others that I was going to be an mechanical engineer, despite my lack of personal interest in the field. Fortunately, when registering for classes, I selected a course that would provide me with the genuine interest and motivation to pursue my ideal major. Anatomy and Physiology first captured my attention through an athletic perspective. I enjoyed competing and training in various sports, such as soccer and cross country, and this class offered a valuable opportunity to discover ways in which my body performed. My interest increased during the year as I experimented and learned about the intricacies of the human body. As a result, I began to develop a sense of direction. Each week, I shadow a Biomedical Technician, performing functionality tests and repairing an array of biomedical equipment. This internship has not only supplied me with an understanding about becoming a Biomedical Engineer, but it has also given me experience within a field that will be affected by my future decisions,. Learning to operate the equipment has given me rare insight into problems I will have to explore and has further inspired my endeavors. Biomedical Engineers play a significant role in the development of the medical field and I aim to contribute to that cause. As a professional, I will help design and pioneer new technologies and methods, like prosthetics and artificial internal organs, to enhance the well being of afflicted
