In North America, bears are on the highest pedestal when it comes to who is at the top of the food chain. These creatures will eat just about anything they can grab or kill, it is all about survival. That was never a problem in Connecticut, until these bear numbers started increasing. Hunting of black bears, or any bear that comes our way, is illegal. We have no laws set for population control for them. The state of Connecticut should allow their people to hunt these for at least one season. This way there will be a regulation on how many bears reside here. They are starting to attack livestock and they have no predators within the state, other than humans to keep them at bay. In a lot of cases, this is not true. They have the saying “Your eyes are bigger than your belly” for a reason. The leftover food on your plate is thrown out into the garbage. Food tends to start to smell when it is left out for a while. Bears have adequate hearing and sight, however, their sense of smell is very heightened. Bears can smell this food from far away and run straight towards it. One time, a few years ago, there was an incident where a bear ended up stealing a dumpster, twice, in one night. Not only your everyday resident throws away food though. Businesses that sell produce are huge contributors. A lot of grocers will not shelve produce that has minor blemishes and bruises. This produce gets rejected right into the trash can. In America, food is cheaper here than anywhere else. This is why it is carelessly thrown around. We throw out 60 million tons of food annually. There is a very high chance, that Connecticut partake in the act. The state wants to stop bears from wandering too close to their people, to do that, they need to reduce food waste.
