The Black Dahlia, Case Solved On January 15th, 1947, Elizabeth Short, also known as the Black Dahlia, was found dead. She was found by Betty Bersinger in a vacant lot at 3800 Norton Avenue in Los Angeles. Buzzfeed - a new feature. Short’s body was naked and in an unnatural position; her eyes were open, legs were spread, and her arms were straight above her head (buzzfeed revisited). Short’s body was cleanly cut in half at the waist and her mouth had been cut at the corners (front page detectives). Hodel tried to have a sexual relationship with his step-daughter, essentially molesting her and trying to rape her (old case solved). When the daughter confronted the family about what he did, they had just shrugged it off and called her psychotic. George Hodel had 11 children with 5 different women, so on top of the busy life of a physician he also slept around a lot. He also had a room that none of the children were allowed to go in, it was completely off limits (buzzfeed). This could support the suspicion that Short was bound and tortured before her death, this room could have been meant for that or other malicious things that Hodel was doing. James Hodel went back to his childhood house in 2014 with a police dog that sniffed out human …show more content…
Manley was the last person Short was seen with. He dropped her off at the Biltmore Hotel on January 9th. Manley was the one that brought Short to L.A., but before this, he had known her for about a month prior. Manley found Short at a bus station in San Diego and offered her a ride. She wouldn’t answer at first, but he was persistent about it and she eventually got in the car. Soon after this, he started taking short on dates. During the month that they had known each other, Short was unable to stay at the place she was living unexpectedly; she reached out to Manely and asked to stay with him. The two started to stay together platonically in a hotel in Pacific Beach, San Diego (aworldinpages). After this, Manley drove her to L.A. so she could pursue acting. After dropping her off, he went down the block to Crown Grill Bar. Despite some people saying the hotel was the last place Short was seen, some say this is truly the last place she was. About a week before Short was discovered, Manley had already returned to San Diego. In 1954, Manley was institutionalized for mental breakdowns and hearing voices
