Lisa McVey Noland was a 17 year-old girl who lived with her grandmother, in Tampa Florida. Her mother was addicted to drugs and alcohol, forcing her to live and take care of her grandmother at 14, but before that she was in and out of foster care. “I was sexually abused at home. My grandmother’s boyfriend used to put a gun to my head every time he molested me for three years. It was nothing new to me. One bad situation got me to another bad situation that saved my life. She tried to scream but he threatened her with a gun. She pressed her finger prints on anything she could in case he did murder her, she hoped it would help the police. but she later found out that the predator was Bobby Joe Long. Who was responsible for eight murders and raped over 50 women, prior to Lisa. She made up stories to humanize herself to Long, one being she lied about her father being ill and she was his only caretaker. Finally after more than a day of being tortured Long took her back to his car telling her she was going home. Long drove her to a gas station at around 4:30 a.m. Long told her to keep the blindfold on for five minutes so he could drive away. But before he drove off he said “Tell your father he’s the reason why i didn't kill you.” Once he left she ran all the way back to her grandmother’s house, when she arrived home her grandmother’s boyfriend began beating on her and she was interrogated for five hours about her whereabouts. She just knew it was Long. She called Sgt. Larry Pinkerton told him to come get her and she had more information on Long. Pinkerton asked her if she’d like to be hypnotized, but when her grandmother’s boyfriend refused to grant her permission, this prompted McVey to reveal his abuse to the cops, leading to his arrest. She was placed in a center for runaway teens and she looked at a photo lineup of the potential kidnappers. Since she was able to get a glimpse of him when she was kidnapped it was easy for her to identify long out of the group. Just twelve days after Lisa McVey’s abduction police arrested Bobby Long. But the serial killer was able to get to more victims before his arrest, Michelle Denise Simms and Virgina Johnson. On September 23, 1985.The next year, Long was found guilty of his crimes against Lisa and first-degree murder and sentenced to death. He eventually confessed to committing 10 murders. Long was executed on May 23,2019, Lisa McVey and another survivor were present at the time of the execution, “i wanted to be the first person he saw” said Lisa.
