Crimes are often glorified by being made into movies or books, but one in particular is the Black Dahlia Murder. On January 15, 1947, aspiring actress Elizabeth Short’s body was found in Leimert Park. The media popularized her death-inspiring novels and movies based on her murder. Dr. George Hodel committed the Black Dahlia murder because his son confirmed it, the body was cut surgically, and similar crimes were committed nearby. Steve Hodel, George Hodel's son, says his father killed Elizabeth Short. Mr. Hodel, a former Los Angeles cop, accused his late father of the murder of Elizabeth Short after examining evidence in the case (Warren 15). Steve Hodel says he thinks his father has committed multiple murders and several copycat crimes that occurred after Elizabeth’s death (Fuller 31). Hodel was well respected and he would have been able to get away with several murders. His experience as a surgeon would have made it easy to cover his tracks. All crimes committed after Beth’s murder were very similar, hinting that the same person did them. George Hodel had killed many women, including Elizabeth Short, so he was able to avoid arrest. Despite all the evidence against George Hodel, some people believe Robert Manley committed the murder. Robert Manley had an affair with Elisabeth and was the last person to see her before she died. While Manley had a confirmed affair with Short, however, he did not kill her. Manely was given and passed the polygraph test. Robert Manley, despite being a suspect, was not the one to kill Elizabeth Short. George Hodel has evidence that has proven him to be the one who committed the Black Dahlia. He was never caught, but it is clear that he was the perpetrator. The testimonies against him, his surgical background, and copycat crimes all prove that he was the one who murdered and mutilated Elizabeth Short.
