In Freshman Composition II, I was successful in improving on my writing overall. This class was a major change from English composition I. For my first paper, I struggled with the formatting and had more grammatical errors compared to my last paper. I lacked understanding in theses topics but after attending class I was able to clear up these issues. I now better understand what ethos, logos, and pathos are used for, especially for the essay “Blackfish” the director effectively used all three towards the audience. Those rhetorical devices really made a difference In making it an effective documentary. I noticed that if ethos, pathos, and logos are very critical to capturing the audience's attention. I was able to improve because of all the essays I wrote throughout the semester along with the helpful feedback from my peers and my professor. Throughout this semester I became more confident with expressing myself and I credit that all to my classmates and professor. When I came into freshman composition II, I was still not aware on how to format my papers. In the beginning, I knew what MLA format was, but I did not fully understand all the details that went into it. Before this class my previous teachers did not use this format as much. For an example, for the header I did not know that it had to be half an inch from the top of the paper and it took me awhile to understand how to do that correctly, and I also did not know how to double space it correctly as it says in “Should the minimum wage be raised?”. When it came to my claim, I did not really state it clearly for the reader. In “Should the minimum wage be raised?” my claim was “These employees are starting to demand a higher raise, but do they truly deserve it?” (“Should the minimum wage be raised-Final” 1).
