Black Panther Party Essay

I choose to do my archival project on the women that were involved in the Black Panther Party organization. This party was founded in 1966, by two black men named Bobby Seale and Newton. This organization was created in self -defense for black communities. This organization not only offered self defense but many other helpful programs that I will mention briefly. Researching about the Black Panther women sparked my interest because my mother is a strong influential woman, similarly to the women who were apart of this organization. I wanted to learn more about how impactful these women were during this time. These women had a sense of unity, they all wore Afros. These afros were symbolic, it showed how African American women embraced their natural beauty. Not only the Afros, but the clothing they wore and how these women wore black clothing they wore black dresses with high boots. Some important women that were a part of this organization are Kathleen Cleaver, Angela Davis, and many others. Kathleen was responsible for organizing the party. She was the first women to be on the BBP committee. Likewise, Angela was teacher during this time but had a lot of involvement in the movement as well. She lead speeches she was an active activist. The images that I showed during my presentation appealed to an substantial number of rhetoric appeals. Out the seven domains of rhetoric I saw Discursive, Imagistic, Embodied, Material, and Spatial Rhetoric being used. They used these appeals to make their organization stronger. These women also held their fist high which was a symbol of black power. Similarly, the style of their afros is a sign of embodied rhetoric. To continue, material rhetoric was also shown through the images I showed the guns/weapons that these women carried, and the clothing that they
