Blade Runner Scene Analysis
Initially a flop, Blade Runner (1982) has become an absolute classic over the years. This movie has amazing visuals. At the time of its release, nobody had seen anything like it. It was the first time that noir was fused with science fiction elements to create a now classic vision of a futuristic, dystopian society. Unlike many sci-fi movies, Blade Runner does not rely on fast-paced action, but the dark atmosphere and its elaborate story about humanity.
A scene that defines the importance of this movie is called “Tears in Rain.” For context; the movie is about a retired Blade Runner (Deckard); played by Harrison Ford, who was called out of retirement for one last job, to kill four replicants that were causing trouble …show more content…

Rutger Hauer who played Roy Batty; the replicant, gave an intense performance while delivering this thought-provoking monologue about how all of his life experiences will amount to nothing after his death. The lighting also stood out to me. It was dark, with the only light in the scene coming from lightning in the storm and other vehicles passing by. The music in the scene was intense at the start and became slow and sad once Batty delivered his monologue. This showed a revelation in Batty as he realized that he was almost human. The cinematography in the scene was very good as well. At the start of the scene, it shows Batty from a low angle of Deckard’s perspective, as he is hanging off of a building, over the city. This was showing that the replicant had superiority over him. Batty then saves Deckard as he was falling and brings him on the top of the building. I believe he did this because he wanted someone to remember him so that he will not be forgotten. The camera angle is then even between the two characters. Batty realizes that he is just like a human while delivering the lines “I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
