The intense and epic movie, Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, dives deep into the treacherous and blood filled mission aimed at taking down a Somalia warlord. An epic film must have in it a hero of imposing stature, a setting of vast scope, actions of great deeds or superhuman strength, supernatural forces at work, and a style of sustained elevation. Due to the imposing stature of Sergeant Eversmann, the vast setting of the Somalian village, and the valorous actions and great deeds carried all the soldiers; Black Hawk Down embodies the characteristics of an epic film. The story’s main character, Sergeant Eversmann, fought as a hero, imposing his stature on his fellow soldiers. Sergeant Eversmann had never led a squadron before, this mission was his first. At times, the situation seemed dire, soldiers thought death was imminent. Sergeant Eversmann was a hero and through his imposing stature he saved them. For example, Sergeant Eversmann was walking outside of a house when a little boy fired at him; the boy missed, and killed his father. The boy then ran over to his father, baling, and hugging him. Considering the boy attempted to kill him, letting him live and not being overcome with rage can be considered as a “great” deed. Similarly, the Delta Force soldiers riding on the Helicopter committed a great deed when they sacrificed themselves to protect the downed chopper. These men flew safely out of reach of enemy gunfire in their own chopper. But when duty called and they saw that someone needed to protect the fallen bird, they volunteered. Even though the zone was extremely hot and death was almost guaranteed, they did not hesitate.
