Romeo and Juliet Essay One of the many questions that remain after reading the timeless story of Romeo and Juliet is, who caused their deaths? Although there are many suspects who have had a major impact on the outcome of the story. The true criminal is Romeo. First off, He goes to the Capulet's party uninvited. Secondly, he kills Tybalt knowing the consequences. Lastly, He didnt ask for permission from eitherparents and kept their marriage a secret. The first reason Romeo is to blame for both their deaths is because he went to the Capulets' party for selfish reasons. We went knowing his family was not welcome. If Romeo had asked Juliets parents for their approval of marriage. There could have been a completely different outcome. Since they got married in secret, Capulet forces Juliet to marry Paris, leading to Juliet faking her death. If simply she had told them she is married, he couldn't have forced her to marry Paris because their catholic, and Catholics don't believe in divorce. Also, at the end of the story, in Act 5 Scene 3, the parents build gold statues of each other's child in honor of their love for each other. Also, the parents recognize their children's love for each other is greater than their hate for each other and their generation-long feud ends. Montague ends the feud by saying “There shall no figure at such rate be set As that of true and faithful Juliet.” At the end of the play, the parents agree that the love of their children was stronger than their hate. So the feud ends and so does the play. However, if the children had proposed the idea, there could have been hope for their marriage. But that didnt happen so Romeo is to blame for not asking permission to propose marriage to Capulet's daughter.
