Blame For The Conflict In Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet

Romeo is to blame for all the conflict in the play, not including the feud itself. Instead of pursuing after Juliet from first sight at the party, he could have stuck with Rosaline, who he said he was in love with prior to seeing Juliet. When making his entrance in the play, Romeo states his unrequited love for Rosaline and says, “She will not stay the siege of loving terms… O, she is rich in beauty.” (1.1.226-229) If Romeo had continued pining for Rosaline, he would not have fallen down the slippery slope that was loving the daughter of the lord of the house his family is feuding with, and no blood would have been shed. Also, Romeo is to blame because he did not stop to consider consulting his and Juliet’s parents and wanted to marry Juliet
