Signs of Modernity in “Sonny’s Blues” The first half of the twentieth century was a time of tremendous change and upheaval, marked by industrialization, wars, migration, and urbanization. James Baldwin's short story, "Sonny Blues," offers a powerful response to the experience of modernity in this period, exploring the impact of these changes on Black communities in America. Through the story's vivid characters and poignant themes, Baldwin creates a vivid portrait of a society struggling to come to terms with the changes brought about by modernity.

I know it is a lot of responsibility but I think I have the skills and leadership to take those responsibilities on. A captain needs to be enthusiastic, helpful, patient, but also a leader that will take charge, when needed. I feel I can and will meet these requirements, if chosen. As captain I would also take any and all opinions into mind before I make any decisions,
Captains in baseball carry a different type of honor and title with them when they compete compared to other subcultures. When electing captain you are voted on by teammates so you can be voted on because of formal reasons such as experience and skill or also informal reasons such as being popular or just really good friends with your teammates. You can be voted on for many reasons but it is best summarized and related to the subculture of harley riders, best described by Schouten and McAlexander, “ Status is conferred on members according to their seniority, participation and leadership in group activities, riding expertise and experience, Harley-specific knowledge, and so forth—in short, the results of an individual 's commitment to the group
I’m at home on the high school parking lot. It’s the only space the administration grudgingly affords our marching band, and yet it’s ours. The band family lives and thrives off people supporting each other, we are there for each other when no one else is. I was elected by this family to be their band president last spring, and I have been completely changed. Despite the flashy title, I am still just one member of this 140 strong group, and I am still pushing to fulfill the responsibility placed on my shoulders.
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Blue. Blue's favorite color is blue. Blue's favorite animal is a dog. She has four dogs. They are all pit bulls.
Being cheer captain is a very important job not only is it important, but it comes with many responsibilities. Cheerleading itself is a very special privilege that people all around the world get to have the opportunity to do. Making the cheer team is one of the most exciting times of one’s life but becoming captain would be once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that would be a pleasure of anyone. Becoming cheer captain would give me the opportunity to be a good image to the squad, showcase my leadership abilities, and motivate my squad to spread spirit all throughout the school. When I think of a cheer captain I think of someone who gets along with every member of the team and is well liked by every last person on the team to include the coaches.
Now as I am a junior this year, I will be faced with the challenge of having to be a leader for our soccer team. This is my third year playing soccer, and I will have to lead our underclassmen in a positive and respectful manner. This challenge of helping lead our soccer team will come much easier given I have had
I began playing soccer when I was eight, which isn’t a very long time, but throughout the six years I’ve been playing, soccer has changed my life. My weekends, as well as some of my weekdays, have been devoted to soccer. Soccer has taught me how to be humble, kind and how to make sure my emotions don’t overpower my
Being shoved to the ground and coming up with a mouthful of turf and a bloody nose isn’t the ideal way to spend a friday night, but for me, it's something I put blood, sweat, and tears into. Soccer has been a passion of mine since my father dropped me off at the local YMCA when I was at the tender age of four. Spending all of my free days for thirteen years running after a soccer ball is arguably what made me into the person I am today. Unity, tenacity, passion and pride have all been morals that are valued within the sport and in my own philosophy. I have explored places I’d never give a second thought to because my sport took me there.
Blues music as a genre and form was developed by African Americans in the south of the United States at the end of the 19th century. Early traditional blues verses consisted of a single line repeated four times.
