In an effort to counter violence in communities the Blueprints for Violence Prevention Initiative was established. This initiative was launched by the Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV), which is located at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The Blueprints for Violence Initiative set out across country so that communities locally replicate programs that were effective in violence prevention. The Blueprints for Violence Prevention Initiative has grown to over 900 programs as of the year 2011. There are 11 model programs, or blueprints that have been identified as being exemplary in their effects of reducing aggression, adolescent crime, delinquency, substance abuse, predelinquent childhood aggression, and childhood disorders. …show more content…
This project is a community-based multifaceted program for adolescent drug abuse prevention. It targets the middle-school population ages 10-14 and has the ultimate goal of preventing or reducing the onset and prevalence of use of gateway drugs. It also strives to help youth recognize the social pressures to drug use and provides them with assertiveness to handle peer pressure and avoid drug usage. This program is not also designed to be utilized in that age period, but to reduce the risks along the individual’s lifespan. The project is composed of the four following components school, community/policy, parent, and mass media. The school component was the most centralized for the drug prevention in the school. This component utilized active social learning techniques and was included in the teachers’ curricula for middle school students. These techniques included modeling, role playing, and discussions with student peer leaders assisting the teachers.
