What caught my eye when reading Body, Remember, a memoir by Kenny Fries My literary analysis is about what caught my eye when I was reading Body, Remember, a memoir by Kenny Fries. There were a couple of major points that caught my eye when reading, but the main one was the kind of relationships he either chose, or even the ones he didn’t choose. All of his relationship’s except the last one he was in, seemed at least somewhat abusive/bad relationship. Everyone might have a different opinion on what a “bad relationship” is but I am going to explain how these were at least bad for Kenny. It also caught my eye hoe self-conscious Kenny was throughout the book and how even as it got later in the book he never was able to overcome this fear of …show more content…

Now don’t get me wrong his parent were supportive to where they would pay to help anything that would help his medical condition. The point I am trying to make is that throughout the book they just didn’t seem to be on the same page at times like they were seeing/trying to accomplish two different things. One example is when his parents help him move into his new apartment after moving out with Miguel, the parents put his things either too high to where he couldn’t reach them, or too low so he wouldn’t be able to bend that far down. At the end of the book he does begin to reconcile with them more than he did at the beginning. Later in the book his dad kisses him on the cheek in a restaurant in public, and they begin to ask him more questions so that they can find out whether his brother is gay or not. That may not seem like a big deal, but to me it seemed like that brought them a little closer together. It seemed like Kenny could even trust the a little more after that and I thought that was a special moment in the …show more content…

Now I understand he had problems with his legs and had scars all over them which was the cause behind this fear, but it seemed to me that if he wanted a he could just walk up to them and they would like him. This kind of confused me because usually when people are self-conscious about themselves or their bodies, they are scared people won’t like them, but he could just walk up to any guy and if he wanted he could have sex with them. They would even walk up to him sometimes because they liked the way he looked. To me after a while I figured that he would have gotten over this fear but he never really did. You could tell this because when he was asked if he wanted to have the amputation on his legs he had to really think about it and he was scared because he didn’t want more scars on his legs. Obviously everyone is different and everyone thinks differently so he might have thought about this situation differently than I would have, but from an outsider’s perspective, it surprised me he never got over this fear. Even though he knew this surgery would have been better for him, he really had to think about it because he was so concerned about what other thought and we never really do find out what he does with the
