The story of Moses is told throughout the book of Exodus. He was set apart from the beginning as a man that would be used by God. His story really starts in Genesis with Abraham and his family making a covenant with God. Many generations later Moses drew the entire family together in the form of a nation with structure and laws which were given to him on Mt. Sinai. These laws were inscribed onto stone tablets and are known as the Ten Commandments. These commandments, which were given to him by God, are still in use to this day. Moses would eventually come into the spotlight all throughout the Pentateuch. Moses tried to get out of it, He didn’t believe God would really want to use a man like him. He didn’t feel like he was a good enough speaker. When God commanded Moses to free the Israelites from Egypt, he protested. He didn’t feel his competence to challenge Pharaoh was strong enough, because of the speech issue. God arranged a deal with Moses and his brother Aaron. Within this new agreement, Aaron would do the speaking and Moses would lead and direct him as though he were God himself. He and his brother Aaron would go on to be quite the leadership team. God would use Moses to lead his people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. Eventually, he would receive the law which would be inscribed onto two stone tablets. Those tablets were placed into what we know as the Ark of the Covenant, and placed inside the temple. Certain rules were established in regards to being in the presence of the ark and for the process of moving it. Since it was the presence of God the rules were to be followed in all ways. We see in many instances people died because of disobedience in regards to the Ark. Moses also saw God which is evidenced by the blinding
