Introduction The interpretation of the book of Revelation may be the most controversial in the entirety of the Bible. The purpose of this paper is to try and gain a better understanding of the text by looking at it through the eyes of the original recipients for its original intent, then to see how it applies to Christian life today.

To not take all of these into account when reading this text is a mastery of missing the point of this text. The most popular opinion on authorship in the scholarly realm is John the apostle, the same man who walked with Jesus and wrote the book of John as well as 1, 2, and 3 John (Easley 2002). There are some scholars who would argue that the John who wrote Revelation is not the apostle John but some other John (Walvoord 1985). The debate of authorship of this book does not take away in any way the power of this text (Bratcher 1993).
