In the book The Giver written by Lois Lowery is a book with no emotions and no color. "But suddenly Jonas had noticed following the path of the apple through the air with his eyes, that the piece of fruit had- well, this was the part that he couldn't adequately understand- the apple had just changed." (Pg 24 digital copy) The Giver is a book about a kid named Jonas. Jonas lives in a community where they are all pretty much act the same and feel the same. The community has taken away all of the weather changes, feeling, and color. Jonas gets to be a receiver for his job which the community gets to pick who gets what job. The receiver gets to see what use to happen and keep all of the memories of what use to happen in the world before the community took it all away. The community has pretty much taken away all of the people's choices away as well. The only choice they are really allowed to make is to be released if you apply for release you are signing up to kill yourself. The elders does not let the people choose their spouse they are given a spouse and their children. The Elders makes everyone take a pill which gets rid of everyone's feelings. Which allows the Elders to choose who their spouse is. Jonas has feelings unlike everyone else because of his new job. They don't want the citizens of to choose the wrong spouse so they pair them instead of letting them choose. This is one way the community makes decisions for the community.
