Can you imagine living a society where freedom was limited, where choices were not granted, where any emotions or feelings are shut out because of society? Can you imagine being the only one carrying memories of the past and the burdens of intensive pain like Jonas? In the book the giver the main character Jonas, faces many changes. As he becomes more aware of his community, he emotional develops. He also changes due to the many hardships he faces after being assigned as the receiver. Throughout the book Jonas changes, from the beginning to the middle towards the end he starts to change, from his actions, to his choices,from his words and his emotions and personality. Like when he learns why he saw the apple, people at the ceremonies faces and Fiona's hair change. He saw the color red, and when he starts to see more colors, it was like a blind person seeing light for the first time, because he had never seen those things before and it opens up this part of Jonas that helps him realize that he along with many other citizens in the community have been deprived of happiness and love and even a real family. And Jonas starts to see, and after he experiences warfare it also starts take effect on him, for example when Asher and some of the others were playing war, because of the extensive pain and learning the real meaning of war.
