Book Report: Extra Credit Assignment
I read the book “cod” by Mark Kurlansky. It was very interesting and eye-opening to read also since I usually don’t read these types of books. It is about how humans have fished cod all over the world throughout history. They have exploited the cod and used different fishing types to catch them more. For example, they were used for fish and chips and it was used all over Europe such as Iceland. One of them was when the fishermen were “trying to insert the tag in one cod, the men stick and poke it so many times that it dies. That makes no one sad, because they are hungry.” This quote proves how brutal the people were with fishing. They didn’t care about the cod, but they instead cared about food and what they hunted even if they were using it up. Another quote was “the technology never reverses itself. Therefore, as society, we need to be careful when making advancements. Another quote was that “nature may have even less patience than politicians.” This quote was so important because even today, politicians may try to help the environment, but in all, it is nature that is getting affected. Nature is the one that is getting depleted of resources, and eventually it will get affected by things such as climate change and global warming which will not only hurt the ecosystems, but humans as
