Goldfish no more
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a goldfish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. " I wasn 't that kind of person that 'd pass by a quotation and ponder upon it as if by reflecting over it, I could somehow glimpse some faded realities of life that I 'd been ignorant to notice. However, for no reason this one quotation had been nagging on my mind for days, restless to get my attention, so unlike my usual self, I let the words sink in and after some time, the fog finally cleared, and revealed to me, a world full of goldfish, including myself. Hindering them from seeing their full potential, the situation of this at school, was so prominent that I felt abashed for not being able to notice it earlier. At the entrance of the classroom was a girl being scolded at by her English teacher for barely passing an exam, and in the hallway was another girl being discouraged by her teacher from applying to a college because her grades weren’t good enough. Little did those teachers know that the first girl can captivate a whole audience with her graceful and thoughtless movements, and the other had one of the most creative and colorful minds at school. Unfortunately, like them, I’ve also been valued by nothing but the numbers of my test scores and grades that I never stopped to wonder if I was anything more than that. These long years of ignorance have delayed my journey of discovering myself and letting the world see it. Now that I am aware, I no longer want to look into the mirror and see my reflection of who I really am and my true embodiment faded and out-shadowed by numbers. I believe that I am a goldfish with an undiscovered potential that has been hiding in the shadows, yearning to be set free. I’ve already embarked on my journey to discovering what that is and who I truly am, and I’m confident that participating in summer camp can dramatically help me get closer to
