Book Strengths

Over the years, I have read a great deal of books that have helped shape me as a reader. Through this reading, one of my strengths is being able to catch minor, but later important, details in a story. I can make sense of small minor details and use this knowledge while reading the rest of the book to further my understanding of it. Another one of my strengths is that I can easily tell when I will enjoy a book or not. People often use the phrase “you can’t judge a book by it 's cover” but I feel that in some circumstances, especially in young adult books, you can. The cover often depicts the main characters and genre of the book which will help you find out if you like or dislike it. Reading can be exciting and satisfying when for example you first meet a character at the beginning of the book and feel a certain way towards them, but by the end feel a completely different way about them. This feeling can really engage your attention in a book and make you think deeper about the people in your own life. Also, when you read a really well-written book, it can take your mind away from your own world and into that character’s world. Sometimes this even makes you more grateful for your own life that you have compared to your character 's situation. Or it can fulfill the void in your life that reading about a character doing just what you are lacking can fill. One of my pet peeves of reading books is when you are forced to read a book that you end up hating. I am fairly efficient at being able to find the good in books that we are required to read and am able to enjoy most of them. But every once in awhile, there is a book that I am required to read that I cannot stand. This is a pet peeve of mine because try as I might, I can’t find anything I like about that book. Also,when reading a book it is sometimes hard to get through when the book uses language that you don’t understand or can’t really relate to. Authors such as Shakespeare are brilliant and write great stories with great meaning behind them but as the years go on, its gets harder and harder for us to read and understand this
