n the critical literacy book, The Bully, by Paul Langan a highschool boy named Darrell Mercer, who just moved from Philadelphia to California to a new school and is already being bullied by new students that are way bigger and stronger than Darrell. Everyday when Darrell is bullied, Darrell gets more worried that he is going to get beat up everyday. When Darrell had enough from being bullied Darrell wanted to get bigger and stronger than he was bullied, because Darrell is short, shorter than 5ft, and skinny, about 100lbs. For example when Darrell and his mom moved from California to Philadelphia they didn't have that much money to buy new clothes or buy school supplies. Also, like when Darrell started to bring money to school, Tyray always asks for lunch money again and again every day. This shows that Darrell doesn't show motivation or just being a little weakling and not standing up for himself at Bluford High School however Darrell wanted to try out the wrestling team because Darrell had enough of being bullied, but instead of joining the wrestling team all the wrestling coach just laughed at Darrell and said “ you are too small for the team “. As the goes on Darrell was ready to stand up to his bully Tyray Hobbs as Tyray asked for lunch money Darrell stood in front of his face saying no and double legging Tyray and eventually breaking Tyray
