On the morning of March 14, 1765, the first blow towards the British Government was thrown. In detail, according to a letter by Governor Bernard, in a central park of Boston an effigy, doll representation, of the stamp distributor, Mr. Oliver, was found hung from a tree. This initial blow to the law keepers of Boston came as a surprise, as they did not know how to react to the situation. The governor goes on to state that even within his council this initial blow was received with mixed emotions. To explain, some of the council members saw this backlash from the community simply as a "boyish sport that did not deserve the attention of the governor"(Governor Bernard, P 10).

In this essay, David Hackett Fisher wrote about the famous Boston Common, located in Boston, Massachusetts. Simply put, the entire essay is, how he describes, “a story which becomes a sequence of stories, with highly articulated actors” (142) and it shows through his unique telling of the history of the Common. Fisher begins his story with one of a man named William Blackston (Blaxton), who was the first owner of the land now known as the Boston Common. He was quite strange and refused to join the Puritans on many accounts until he moved away and sold his land to Boston.

The Boston Massacre is an event most Americans and British students learn about over the course of their education. In America, we learn that British soldiers fired upon innocent civilians, although this may not have been the case. British historians have referred to the Boston Massacre as the "Incident on King Street". After looking over the "Captain Thomas Preston 's Account of the Boston Massacre", as well as "Boston Massacre Trial Depositions" I believe that American historians should refer to the "Boston Massacre" as the "Incident on King Street". The definition of a massacre refers to an unnecessary and random killing of a large number of individuals.
Bystander behaviour can generally be described as the actions people take when they witness an emergency situation in a public place. There have been many studies on bystander behaviour, this essay will explore two approaches to explain this behaviour. It will look at the experimental method performed by Latané and Darley and at the discourse analysis done by Levine. First the essay will describe and outline the methods.after that it will examine the similarities as well as the contrast between those techniques. Latané and Darley did their research on bystander behaviour in the aftermath of the murder case of Catherine `Kitty´ Genovese,which happened in the Suburbs of New York in 1964.
According to Maslow’s Theory of Human Motivation, the human’s actions are based upon a descending hierarchy of five tiers of needs; physiological needs, safety and security needs, love and belongingness needs, self-esteem needs and self-actualization needs respectively. We can notice a connection between the bystander’s action and the lack of fulfilment of their ‘safety and security needs’ according to the model by observing the bystander’s actions that consist of joining the observing crowd and giving their social responsibility to others due to their ‘diffusion of responsibility’ type of thinking; therefore, we are able to notice that the probability of help is related to the number of bystanders inversely according to Darley and Latane’s research. The solution that the research has found for the victim in an emergency would be to make a specific pressure-implying call to a certain bystander that would clear his diffusion. Phase III: Formal Analysis The results of my questionnaire revealed that my classmates are all aware of the increase in homelessness. To my surprise, sixty percent of the students have either donated or volunteered at a homeless shelter. Considering that the class room demographic includes nineteen out of twenty students who are full time students, I figured they wouldn’t have enough free time. Additionally, forty percent of the class has never donated or volunteered to the homeless.
Both Latané and Darley 's use of the experimental method and Levine 's use of discourse analysis aim to gain insight as to why the bystander phenomenon occurs, and are interested in why humans seemingly go against their better nature and choose not to help others. (The Open University, 2015a) Latané and Darley 's(1970) cited in Byford, (2014, p.229) experiment consisted of a lab-controlled test and used their quantitative results in order to understand the bystander effect and concluded that people are significantly less likely to respond when in the “passive confederate condition” and most likely to respond when in the “alone condition.” Levine 's (1999) cited in Byford (2014, p.236) viewing of qualitative evidence meant that he was able to determine factors he felt led to the explanation of this effect, such as the examination of the Bulger case and others ' feeling as though they should not become involved in family matters. Social apathy, which is a lack of care, concern or emotion for the other people in society, stir up much controversy in recent years because increasing cases of bystanders turned a blind eye to crime victims are widely reported. Considering different perspectives and evidence of social indifference in modern generation, I am firmly convinced that social apathy is not a problem in today’s world. Mentally, individuals have positive attitudes instead of insensitivity about helping. Also, a variety of approaches is used to demonstrate the concern to each other in action. In addition, Failure to help may not equal to social apathy completely, perhaps there are other affecting factors.

This is necessary, in order for us to comprehend and discuss the potential benefits and problems of using smartphones and tablets on children’s early childhood learning. Different approaches have been adopted for the early childhood education, each with its own philosophy. Very often, early childhood educators have to decide for themselves and the children which philosophy they subscribe to. We could only attempt to arrive at some common grounds on early childhood education for this study.
