“To help other people at all times” is an oath I first made as a young Boy Scout. Having spent most of my life as a Boy Scout, and aspiring to becoming an Eagle Scout, it is close to my heart. Every day I look for opportunities to serve others. As a young child, I had a natural talent for figuring out how things were put together and worked. Although I began by dismantling and assembling furniture, by age 12 I was assembling and fixing lawn mowers and patio heaters for friends. I felt great pride in seeing how I could help others. This led me expanding my service to my community as a whole. One of my first community projects was to help new voters learn how to read ballots. With every community service project I have embarked up, my passion for helping others has grown, as has the reach of my work. As a young child I was adopted into a multicultural family. I fondly recall trips to my father’s native Thailand. During these visits I learned how my father attended a Catholic school, although he came from Buddhist lineage. This taught me how people can embrace multiple cultures, religions, ethnicities, and opinions, while not loosing any of the essence of who they are or where they came from. I would bring this philosophy to the college. I would also bring my understanding of both Indian and Asian cultures to the university, as I help students better understand how to find similarities and power in their differences. I believe that having worked in professional partnerships in India and experienced Asia with the guidance of a native Asian, I will bring an understanding of these cultures that cannot be found in any books. Furthermore, I will help my fellow students better understand how vital cultural understanding is in the business world and leadership
