Brave New World Quote Analysis

For this assignment I have chosen the quote: “ Words can be like X-rays, if you use them properly–they'll go through anything.”(Huxley 72), from chapter four of Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. In the book, Helmholtz Watson, a professor at the College of Emotional Engineering, feels that his job doesn’t give him the satisfaction for which he yearns, and wishes to use his writing skill set to do something more valuable to him. He uses the quote above to profess his ambitions to his friend, Bernard Marx. I relate to this quote because I understand the importance of words, but, unlike Helmholtz, often have trouble being concise. This can result in extremely detailed, long, and tedious texts.
