Brazil is one of the fastest growing countries in the world with much to offer. It is a vast land with access to many different resources. Many companies understand the potential Brazil has; yet they fail how to conduct proper business. Without proper training on how to conduct a deal with Brazilians then companies risk the chance of never coming to an agreement. Companies seem to believe that they can force Brazilians to negotiate on their own standards and not Brazilian standards, bad idea. They are also very long term oriented who believe the hard work of today will reap them long term benefits and results A strong work ethic is highly valued as an essential in order to move up in this world. When conducting business, people need to be patient and be able to show them why they should do business with you. They don’t succumb to change so easily, as they tend to fight it and stick to their traditions but that is also starting to change as the world becomes much more globalized. Brazil understands the opportunities they have and the opportunities they can provide as well. Brazilian culture is a collectivist culture that places emphasis on family, extended family, or even extended relationships although, some parts of the Brazilian culture is becoming individualistic as well. The younger generations of Brazilians have started to tilt towards individualism due to the influence of western countries and culture. Yet, when it comes to business, Brazil is still a collectivist society. They work together to make sure there is harmony in the group and stability. There is no job that is given to one individual rather it is given to work unit, a section, or even a whole department. When a conflict arises, it is usually solved through a mediator or third party. The Brazilian president, Dilm Rouseff, is actually a lady. Much is changing in Brazil when it comes to gender equality. However, women who go to conduct business in brazil should be quick not judge certain acts as a form of sexism. In the United States, businesses tend to ignore the gender differences, while in Brazil it is the opposite; they embrace it. For example, a man in Brazil might open the door for the lady, or offering to light her cigarette while even receiving comment about her appearance. Failure to exchange or participate in such behavior may be viewed as misunderstood. Gender-based etiquette in Brazil is not a sign of sexism but rather a good upbringing. Women should wear suits or dresses that are elegant and feminine with good qualities with good quality accessories. Manicures are expected of women. Men should wear conservative, dark colored business suits. Three- pieces suits typically indicate that someone is an executive.
