She is known by all males, lusted for by many, envied from afar and up close by woman, and known for the way she dresses. The only person who fits those traits is Brett Ashley may portray herself as a bold women, but there is more to her than just that. She is covered in insecurities and surrounded by men. She takes on the appearance of a flapper. During this time it was common so, she fit in with the crowd of younger women. Flappers during this time period were women who wore short dresses and had their hair cut short; the flappers were also known for their behavior towards the opposite sex. This generation was known for short hair, dresses and skirts. This is important because if it was not for this movement when women would not be the way they are today. Many may notice these important changes not only in her but in the world and how the clothing styles have changed through the years also around this time women became more dominant. This is important because none of the male characters even have a visual to line up with the book, so it's just left to the imagination but with Brett it shows her personality by her clothing and but we get more vibes by her actions. There was one male character that was somewhat followed during the novel and that was the only one who was not seduced by her and her way of life. That one male character was Bill, we do not know much about him but he is not fond of her for a some unknown reason. Most likely it is due to how she can flirt with any male and still be in a relationship. Her relationship with Mike was very unhealthy and confusing due to the amount of men who she gave attention to and they returned the favor. She may just be very friendly, but does not seem happy within her relationship.This is what caused her to seek other sources for attention and
