On February of her second semester, Brianna turned 19. By this time, she gained a sense of individuality, but was starting to feel like she was missing something in her life. All throughout high school she held several leadership positions and was labeled roles such as “dancer,” “singer,” or “captain.” At college, these titles were replaced with “freshman,” “pizza maker,” or “club attendee”; none of which she felt had substance. There came a point where she hit a mini-identity crisis. Brianna longed for an opportunity to be the delegator and leader that she felt she had been since early childhood. She has witnessed her personality develop from core characteristics that began in toddlerhood. At that stage, her relationship with her brother founded crucial skills of socialization that carried out through adulthood. In addition, both of Brianna’s parents have played a large role in shaping her to be the young lady she is today. Whether or not they were always present, she was opened up to a world of culture and acceptance.
Now that she has reached Erikson’s stage of Intimacy vs Isolation, Brianna will be conflicted on her feelings of love towards a potential partner. She is now fully equipped with the knowledge of all layers of Bronfenbrenner’s model to transcend her understand of personal development. This is based on the premises of Piaget’s label of complex, abstract thinking. As she continues her journey of development, Brianna will not only begin to understand her past at greater depths, but also start to influence the lives of others.
