History of the United Parcel Service
In August of 1907, a young man named James Casey borrowed 100$ from a friend in Seattle, Washington. Together, him and Claude Ryan created the American Messenger Company out of that 100$, and a single bicycle. Most deliveries at this time were made on foot and bicycles were used for longer trips. The company primarily focused on packages the were to be delivered to retail stores. In 1913, the company acquired its first car, a Ford Model T. In 1919, the company outside of Seattle to Oakland, California and changed its name to United Parcel Service.
