The character has characteristics such as being selfish, insecurity, rebellious, and is very independent. The character can aslo be the outsider who does not fit-in, and has problems with authority & with rules, which we learned in class.
Too Extraordinary to be Fantasy Roughly 420,000 Americans were killed throughout the course of World War II, Louis Zamperini was presumed to be one of those Americans, until they learned he was actually alive. The story Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand, documents the amazing survival story of a U.S. World War II veteran who defied the odds of survival by making it through the unthinkable. From living through a ghastly plane crash and surviving on an ocean raft for 47 days, to making it through the horrifying conditions and treatment at the Japanese prisoner of war camps, Louis Zamperini certainly remains unbroken.
Within Ways of Reading, by Anthony Petrosky, there is an excerpt called the "Loss of the Creature", by Walker Percy. In Percy 's excerpt he writes about many different stories and examples that are all about different things. He shows that everyone 's 'Value P ' is different because everyone sees things different. By saying this Percy is trying to say that we, the readers, should not set expectations on an experience that we will have. In the story Among the Hidden, written by Margaret Peterson, the main characters are Luke and Jen. The setting in the story takes place in the future but at both Luke and Jen’s houses. Luke is a third child which means he can’t be seen by anyone but his family. If he is seen by anyone else then he will be killed by the population police. But, when Luke sees someone in the neighbor's window, he sees that they are not one of the neighbor’s kids.
The significance of Kincaid’s title “The Estrangement” is to describe her deteriorating relationship with her mother. In the story, Kincaid explains how she stopped talking to her mother a few years before she died because she always made her feel like her accomplishments weren't good enough. Estrangement is the fact of no longer being on friendly terms or part of a social group and during the story Kincaid looked at her mother as a hero; but eventually developed resentment. For example, in the first sentence of the essay Kincaid said “ three years before my mother died, I decided not to speak to her again”.

In the novel Night, by Elie Wiesel, characterizes the loss of faith of the Jewish population during their time in the Ghettos, concentration camps, and travels between camps. Almost six million Jews lost their faith in their god during their time in the concentration camp. Most Jews were trying to hold on strongly onto their belief in their god, but others started to rebel against their god and started to forget about their religion and just focus on survival. Elie first loses his faith when he is first being transferred to Auschwitz, and they are on their way to the crematory, and Elie 's father recites the Kaddish prayer of the dead, that 's when Elie realizes that he could die any day now.
Before World War I, all of Europe in 1914, was tense and like a bomb or a fire was waiting to erupt. Europe had not seen a major war in years, but due to Militarism, Imperialism, Alliances, and Nationalism tensions grew high. Each country was competing to be the best by gaining more territory and growing in their military size and successful economies. World War 1 was waiting to happen and the assassination of the Archduke was the spark that lit Europe up. In All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque we see the effects of the assassination.
1.When I first picked up John Ortberg’s Everybody’s Normal Till You Get to Know Them I did not think I would like, but I read the first two chapters and was captivated. As you make your way through the book Ortberg separates it into three parts; “Normal: There’s No Such Thing, Dear”, “How To Get Close Without Getting Hurt”, and “The Secret of Strong Relationships.”
Often criticized for his treatment of the Invisible Man, and his rise to power during a time when only the white people had any power; Mr. Bledsoe actually helped more than he harmed. By being in any type of leadership position he is able to look out for the black community if something occurs or is about to occur, Bledsoe is able to prevent the issue or protect his people in a dire situation. In the specific case of Mr. Bledsoe, I believe that the way he is fighting the system by being a part of it and fixing it from within is the best way for Bledsoe to promote positive change for the black community. The eighteenth chapter starts with the Invisible Man identifying his tendencies that seem analogous with Bledsoe’s way of living (to fit into the white man’s world and win little success’ along the way.)
Bonnie Tucker and Matt Hamill; How are They the Same and How are They Different In the book, The Feel of Silence by Bonnie Tucker, you see the story of a young woman growing up deaf. Although medically and physically she is profoundly deaf, in the mind and heart she desperately wants to be a part of the hearing world. Even in her older years she never really accepted her deafness totally. On one hand you have the Deaf people in the world who are like Bonnie, but on the other you see people like the hammer, formally known as Matt Hamill.
When he was twelve years old his grandmother died. He was very close to her. When he found out the news he tried to commit suicide. He jumped out of the 2nd story of his house. Of course it was a failed suicide.
