American pop star Britney Jean Spears, known also as Britney Spears, was one of the biggest pop stars in the 1990s and early 2000s. Britney Spears was born in McComb, Mississippi on December 2, 1981. She grew up with her brother and sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, who was an actress. Britney Spears spent the majority of her teen years in the public eye and grew into one of the biggest stars in the world. Spears' rise to fame was almost instant after the release of her debut hit in the late 90s. Spears was eighteen years old when she released her debut album, "... Baby One More Time" which turned her into an international star and labeled her as a teen pop idol. Soon after the release of her album, Spears went on her first tour with the popular boy band NSync. Spears then started appearing on many different platforms, like in popular sitcoms, she also posed for her first magazine and even hosted Saturday Night Live. Spears' first controversy was due to her posing in the Rolling Stones which shows the star laying on a bed, wearing an unbuttoned shirt showing her bra, along with shorts, while holding a Teletubby. Many thought the shoot oversexualized Spears, and the American Family Association called it "a disturbing mix of childhood innocence and adult sexuality" and went on to ask people to boycott Spears for it. The courts appointed her father, James "Jamie" Spears, and lawyer Andrew M. Wallet as conservators. The conservatorship was in effect for eleven years, even though it was supposed to end in 2009. Much later in late 2019, people close to Spears said that since January 2019, when Spears disregarded the driving restriction Jamie had given her, he had been restraining her against her will at a mental health facility for over a month. The claims sparked a campaign on social media to end the conservatorship called #FreeBritney. The hashtag gained the support of many, including the American Civil Liberties Union, which tweeted, "If Britney Spears wants to regain her civil liberties and get out of her conservatorship, we are here to help her." (Kirkpatrick) The following year, in 2020, the court received evidence from Spears' attorney that she wanted the terms of her conservatorship changed to better reflect her preferences. Jodi Montgomery, Spears' longtime care manager, was to be appointed as her permanent conservator, and Jamie was to be replaced as her estate's conservator. The judge agreed, however, to make the change last only one month, until February 2021. Only a month later, a petition was submitted by Spears' lawyer asking for Montgomery to take over permanently from Jamie as the conservator of Spears'. Spears
