The individual shown on the right side of the picture has breast shows it’s a woman, while the other on the left was flat chest which demonstrates a man. They are both seated together on a bench with their arms lovingly stretched around each other. This to me is a symbol of closeness. Their jewelry is painted yellow which represents gold, they both wore elaberate wigs. I also see almond-shaped eyes, curved eyebrows, broad noses and full sensuous lips of Nebsen and Nebet-ta. Which means the legally or formally recognized union of a man and woman as partners in a relationship. Many egyptians believe that one should find an individual from the opposite sex and get married as a way of fulfilling their rites of passage. I believe that the picture depicts a sense of wealth as they both were well dressed with head garments in the color of gold. I also believe them holding hands showed unity and loyalty to each other and how important them being committed to their culture meant. The husband’s hand was placed over the wife as a sign of who he is as the head of household in their culture. I also believe that the woman was more evidently smiling while the husband is more serious a sign of how a woman is viewed in the egyptian culture; as being the other half of the relationship who didn’t make most of the decisions, more fun. The man is more serious because he was depicted to be the defender, the decision maker.
