Being a social worker is a career that I have contemplated from an early age. Unlike many who were inspired by social workers in their families, I was urged by my family to be a part of the medical field. For them, a career is simply something that provides financial stability. However, a career to me, is means to enrich your life and others as well. When I came upon the career of social work, I knew that I had found a way to channel the compassion that I had for others into actively working to lessen their burdens.
As I grew older, I commonly came across individuals that were cast away from society -the homeless, the mentally ill, and those battling addiction. I have come to realize that there are no real differences between us. As human beings, we both possess the same fears and struggles to have our needs met. But what these individuals lack is someone to guide and support them. My desire to be a part of the BSW comes from my faith in the ability to create change. I firmly believe that this program will equip me to do. Being a member of this program will enable me to better grasp and understand the issues faced by our society today, whether it is regarding policy, service, or stigma. Because of this, a good foundation is deemed necessary, one that entails not only having a stable and secure environment, but also caregivers that encourage the child to live to their highest potentials. With this, they can emerge into a productive member of society. By working as a youth leader at my church, I continuously learn to be an effective communicator when handling micro and mezzo level needs. I have learned to consider the most prominent concerns to address. Working with my youth group has taught me to be flexible in the execution of my ideas, incorporating the ideas of others, and executing them in a way that all members of the youth group can feel satisfied by our actions and
